If you go over 21 this is called going BUST and you automatically lose the hand. In Classic Blackjack, you can only bet one hand at a time. Traditionally a shoe may contain anything from one standard 52-card deck – no jokers – to 6 or sometimes 8 decks.
Each of the player's hands is dealt two cards. There are two ways to determine the table bet limit for a specific table. All hands that are dealt an Ace and a 10 or a face card win, unless the dealer also has a BLACKJACK – a PUSH. The Dealer stands on all hands with the value of 17 or more and draws on all hands with the value of 16 or less.
These may be represented as either a + and - symbol or up and down arrows. Insurance only covers your original hand. If the player's hand is closer to 21 the player wins, if the dealer's hand is closer to 21 the player loses. A second wager – equal to your original wager – is automatically placed on your second hand. If your first two cards have the same point value, you may split them into two separate hands by placing a second bet equal to the original bet. If your card count goes over 21, you lose.
